Algalíf has won Marketing Initiative of the Year at the NutraIngredients-Asia Awards 2026 for the Astalíf™ Brand Transformation Initiative, earning one of the most prestigious recognitions in the global nutraceutical industry.
The award was presented in Bangkok on September 2 alongside Vitafoods Asia, one of Asia’s leading nutraceutical trade shows. It recognizes an ambitious two-year transformation of Astalíf™, Algalíf’s international B2B brand of natural astaxanthin ingredients.
Unlike a consumer brand, Algalíf operates within the nutraceutical industry, serving supplement manufacturers, health brands, formulators and distribution partners around the world. The transformation was designed to strengthen Astalíf™ as a premium ingredient brand and provide Algalíf’s business customers with stronger scientific, technical and marketing support.
The initiative was conceived and led by Svavar Halldórsson, Chief Commercial Officer of Algalíf, who leads the company’s global sales and marketing efforts. However, as Svavar emphasizes, “It was brought to life through the combined work and expertise of the entire Algalíf team.”
Recognition from the global nutraceutical industry
The NutraIngredients Awards are widely regarded as among the most prestigious awards in the global nutrition and dietary supplement industry. They recognize outstanding achievements across ingredients, finished products, scientific research, innovation and marketing.
This year’s NutraIngredients-Asia Awards attracted a record 256 entries—more than 30% above the previous year. The entries were evaluated by an independent panel of international industry experts, with the Astalíf™ Brand Transformation Initiative selected as the winner of Marketing Initiative of the Year.
“To win one of the most prestigious awards in our industry is a tremendous honor,” says Svavar. “Although I have had the privilege of leading this initiative, the story we communicate is created every day by the people of Algalíf. Our marketing can only be as strong as our products, science, innovation, production and customer service. I am extremely grateful to everyone at Algalíf who has contributed to this transformation. This award belongs to the entire team, and I am very proud of what we have achieved together.”

Transforming the way Algalíf presents itself to the world
The Astalíf™ Brand Transformation Initiative formed part of a broader commercial strategy to strengthen the international position of Algalíf and transform Astalíf™ into a more clearly defined premium B2B ingredient brand.
The initiative began with a fundamental question: What truly differentiates Algalíf in the increasingly competitive global market for natural astaxanthin?
The answer became the five pillars of the company’s commercial strategy: Quality. Reliability. Sustainability. Science. Innovation.
These pillars are more than marketing messages. They reflect how Algalíf operates, from cultivating microalgae in closed photobioreactors using pure Icelandic water and renewable geothermal energy to investing in scientific research, product innovation, dependable production and long-term customer partnerships.
“Our challenge was not to invent a new story,” Svavar explains. “Algalíf already had an exceptional story. Our task was to identify the qualities that genuinely define the company, build a clear strategy around them and communicate them more powerfully and consistently to customers around the world.”
Building a premium B2B ingredient brand
Astalíf™ is not a consumer supplement. It is a B2B ingredient brand serving companies that develop, manufacture, market and distribute finished nutritional products.
Building a successful B2B brand in the nutraceutical industry requires a different approach from conventional consumer marketing. Purchasing decisions are made by customers who must evaluate product quality, scientific evidence, technical performance, regulatory requirements, supply reliability, sustainability, service and long-term commercial value.
The objective of the transformation was therefore not simply to increase awareness. It was to position Astalíf™ as a premium global natural astaxanthin brand and give customers compelling reasons to choose Algalíf as a long-term business partner.
“Building an international ingredient brand requires much more than a new logo or an advertising campaign,” says Svavar. “It requires a deep understanding of what customers value, a strong commercial strategy and the ability to translate the company’s strengths into something meaningful at every customer touchpoint.”
A transformation across the business
Implemented between January 2025 and June 2026, the initiative transformed almost every aspect of how Algalíf and Astalíf™ are presented internationally.
It included a renewed brand identity, a new website, new trade-show concepts, scientific communication, customer and co-branding support, digital campaigns, industry events, presentations and training for customers, prospects and distributors.
The transformation was closely connected with Algalíf’s investment in science and product innovation, including the introduction of Astalíf™ 20, a high-concentration natural astaxanthin oleoresin, and AstaBead™ 5, a versatile natural astaxanthin beadlet developed for applications such as tablets, gummies and hard capsules.
Rather than treating marketing as a separate activity, the initiative brought brand strategy, product development, science, sales and customer support together within one integrated commercial approach.
Recognition of measurable progress
The transformation has coincided with a period of significant commercial growth and increased international visibility for Algalíf.
From 2024 to 2025, the company recorded sales growth of 112%. During the first half of 2026, sales and confirmed orders increased by a further 47% compared with the same period in 2025.
The initiative also produced substantial growth in digital engagement. During a key campaign period, Algalíf recorded a 44% increase in active website users and a 416% increase in LinkedIn impressions, alongside stronger engagement and continued growth in the company’s international audience.
These results reflect the central purpose of the initiative: to move the customer conversation beyond price alone and toward long-term value, science, quality, reliability, sustainability and partnership.
An achievement shared by the entire Algalíf team
Although the transformation was led through Algalíf’s commercial activities, its foundation was created throughout the company.
“Strong marketing must be built on something real,” says Svavar. “Everything we communicate is made possible by the expertise and dedication of our colleagues across Algalíf, from cultivation and production to quality, science, product development, supply chain, sales and marketing.
“A transformation of this scale can never be achieved by one person. I am extremely proud of our Sales and Marketing team and deeply grateful to everyone across Algalíf who contributed ideas, expertise, energy and support along the way.
“My policy is always to listen to everyone’s ideas. There are little nuggets of gold to be found here and there—but only if you are listening.”
Bringing the award home to Iceland
Winning Marketing Initiative of the Year places the Astalíf™ Brand Transformation Initiative among the leading nutraceutical marketing projects in the Asia-Pacific region and gives Algalíf significant international recognition.
For Algalíf, however, the award is not the conclusion of the transformation.
“We are immensely proud to bring this prestigious award home to Iceland,” Svavar concludes. “It recognizes how far we have come, but it also raises our ambitions for the future.
“To our knowledge, no Icelandic company has ever before received this award for its international B2B marketing. We will continue investing in science, innovation, sustainability and customer success and continue building Astalíf™ into one of the world’s most trusted natural astaxanthin brands.”
